Backup Recommendations

Objective

This document contains Maestro's recommendations for making backups. It must be forwarded to the IT manager so that he can become familiar with the information and confirm the different settings.

If you need help to confirm your data backup procedure, please contact the software support department so that we can evaluate your procedure, provide our recommendations, and discuss the options available.

Summary

Instructions

To back up maestro* data, you must use one of the following three methods:

  1. Use data backup software that is compatible with the Volume Shadow Services (VSS) technology.
  2. Use the Pervasive Backup Agent utility in conjunction with your data backup software.
  3. Use your backup software to back up the data. You must turn Pervasive SQL services off and have your users exit maestro* before taking the backup.

Refer to the maestro* technical documentation on backing up data for more information on the various methods.

The maestro* backup data must include all files in the following directory: Disk:\Compt\maestro\*.*

Backup Software

For backup solutions that back up directly to the cloud (Internet), we recommend first taking a local backup, and then transferring the local backup to the cloud. This precaution is necessary because depending on the speed of your Internet connection, transferring your backup to the cloud can take several hours.

To facilitate the data backup procedure, we recommend backup software that allows you to enter commands before and after the backup.

Frequency of Backups

The table below suggests a frequency of backing up data:

Frequency

Keeping the backup copy

Daily backup of all data from Monday to Thursday

1 week

Weekly backup on Friday of all data for the week

1 month off site

Monthly backup of all data

1 year off site

We strongly recommend checking and testing the backup procedure on a weekly and monthly basis to check that the backup is performed correctly and completely.

Restoring Data

All restored data must be checked by our technical team to ensure data integrity and proper functioning of the maestro* software.
